Woods Named Once Again Firm of the Year in Quebec and honoured with two additional awards at the 2020 Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards
Woods was honoured with Benchmark Litigation’s award for Quebec Firm of the Year at Benchmark’s annual gala held virtually on May 28, 2020. Woods was one of six nominees for the award, which recognizes outstanding achievements and positive reviews on the team's talents and accomplishments over a year. Benchmark described the firm as “one of the strongest outfits in Montreal with a star-studded bench at both the senior and the next-generation levels.”
“This distinction is a rewarding moment for all at Woods and a testimony to the recognition of our commitment to professional excellence,” commented Caroline Biron, Managing Partner of the firm.
Mtre. James Woods, founder of the firm, was inducted into Benchmark’s Hall of Fame, an honour bestowed to a select number of accomplished litigators with stellar careers. To read more about his induction, please click here.
Woods also received an “Impact Case” award for having represented Omni Bridgeway (formerly Bentham IMF) in a recent victory before the Supreme Court of Canada: 9354-9186 Québec inc. (formerly known as Bluberi Gaming Technology Inc.) et al. v. Callidus Capital Corporation, et al. This landmark decision for third-party litigation funding is Neil Peden’s second win at the Supreme Court in less than two years.
The firm was also a finalist in the Arbitration in Canada category, as were Patrick Ouellet and Stephen L. Drymer in the Litigator of the Year in Quebec and Arbitration Lawyer Award categories, respectively.
Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees at this year’s gala!
