Sébastien Richemont has over 20 years of commercial litigation experience. In court, he is both formidable and passionate, and out of court he is a strategic counsellor in litigious matters and devoted partner to his colleagues and clients. As a frequent speaker and teacher, he also appreciates the academic aspects of the law.  His areas of expertise include contractual disputes, class actions, manufacturer’s liability, professionals liability (lawyers, accountants, engineers), as well as shareholder disputes, securities litigation, and arbitrations.

He has acted in a number of high-profile cases, including the restructuring of the Canadian Asset-Backed Commercial Paper (ABCP) market, following the liquidity crisis of 2007, in the context of which he represented a group of Quebec corporations holding an aggregate of $1.2 billion of ABCP. He has also acted in the matter of Automobiles Jalbert v. BMW which resulted in a judgment of principle by the Court of Appeal, as well as in a number of arbitrations in the information technology sector.





Representing Eolectric, a wind energy prospector, in a suit to recover a $3.5 million success fee from Kruger Energy further to the award of a power purchase agreement for the development of the St-Rémi wind farm project. The case is under advisement.

Successfully represented Dr. Garrel before the Court of Appeal of Québec, which upheld the decision of Justice Tingley in the matter Gestion Finance Tamalia inc. v. Garrel whereby we obtained the dismissal of a defamation suit of more than $7 million against our client.

Representing CI Investments in a major security class action alleging improper supervision of market timing operations.

Representing Manulife in a major security class action alleging improper disclosure to the stock market and shareholders pertaining to risks related to its capital-guaranteed products..

Obtained the annulment of the Quebec provincial transport ministry decision to disqualify Genivar-Dessau from a $70 million construction project. Following this decision, Genivar-Dessau obtained the contract for realization of plans and specifications and site supervision.

Obtained the dismissal of a declinatory exception in favour of the CCI and an arbitration request before the CCI in an action for several million dollars pertaining to manufacturer's liability for the benefit of our client Bombardier.
